Invermoriston Raw Water Pumping Station

As a framework supplier Saftronics were approached to support Scottish Water and their delivery alliance partner Efficient Service Delivery (ESD) with the £21 million investment scheme in the Loch Ness Water network.

With the current arrangement not providing enough water to meet summer peak demands for both Fort Augustus or Invermoriston a new Water Treatment Works was manufactured by Ross-shire Engineering, assembled at their works in  Muir of Ord near Inverness, before being transported to the site. To support RSE with this project Saftronics supplied the Intelligent Motor Control Centre (iMCC) to provide the control and monitoring of the overall scheme.

At the new water intake and underground pumping station site at Invermoriston, an MCC complete with a digital control system was also required. Saftronics manufactured the new MCC to house the raw water pumps Variable Speed Drive starters, digitally controlled by a Siemens S7-1500 programmable logic controller (PLC). The panel casework used was selected from one of Saftronics standard WIMES & BS EN 61439 compliant range with an ASTA certified copper bus bar distribution arrangement.

In line with Scottish Water’s requirements for the provision of diagnostic capabilities on all Profibus Repeaters, and to add a level of testing and diagnostic functionality, Saftronics digital systems team, working closely with the help of Procentec and installed Procentec COMM Bricks units to provide extended capabilities with respect to monitoring, diagnostics and Profitrace testing of the intelligent Profibus communications networks.

The treated water is pumped to new Service Reservoir storage tanks in Fort Augustus and Saftonics supplied a local ICA Control Panel for the monitoring and control of the tank levels.

Once complete the overall project will provide up to 1,000,000 litres of drinking water per day, supplied by an abundant source of raw water.

Saftronics have been providing MCC’s and digital control system solutions to the UK water industry for over 30 years and with collaboration with many other end users, contractors, and OEMs, we can ensure successful project delivery in this sector.
