We are delighted to announce that we have received our Mitsubishi Electric Approved Solution Partner accreditation as part of their Systems Integrator Programme. The Digital Systems Team here at Saftronics are looking forward to continuing learning from and working with the experts at Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems Division.

As ever environmental issues are constantly on the agenda here at Saftronics. With this in mind, we are developing a carbon calculator in order to help our customers determine our motor control centre’s carbon footprint for their projects.

Inside Energy have covered our latest case study for an oil and gas MCC replacement program in their March issue.

With the constant need to reduce operating costs and increase output, the oil and gas industry requires more than usual from their Motor Control Centres (MCCs). Saftronics have a long history of working with both gas and oil facilities. While the manufacturing of the MCC is not necessarily demanding, the installation of them can be. Downtime can have obviously have a serious effect on output, but can also affect health and safety and general operations. The team at Saftronics are experts at finding solutions, and installing MCCs, Control Panels and LV Switchboards in difficult locations and high-pressure environments.

We have been awarded a further contract for two more smart Motor Control Centre’s (MCC’s) for vessels used in the oil industry off Brazil.  This follows on from a successful project in the second quarter of last year to a client that has a fleet of floating production storage and offloading vessels (FPSO) that need fitting with the new MCCs. Our client is active in sectors including petrochemicals, oil, natural gas, electricity, chemical-gas and biofuel.

MCCs, often used in industrial and large commercial buildings, are an assembly to control separate electric motors from a central location such as a machine room. FPSOs are widely used in the global oil and gas sector, to moor near offshore drilling rigs so that the oil tankers do not have to sail too close while loading. The challenge with this type of application is that space is at a premium and downtime must be kept to a minimum.

Saftronics are experienced in operating within these constraints and our compact, bespoke design is ideal for these challenging environments.

Saftronics will be attending the Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair on the Leeds Manufacturing Alliance stand. The event is the largest apprenticeship exhibition in the north. Over 100 companies will be in attendance. It will be taking place at the Leeds First Direct Arena on Monday 3rd February 2020, 4pm – 8pm.

Saftronics workforce is split between the engineering, business administration and manufacturing facility, we are increasingly looking at areas that could be helped by apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships are the future for our workforce, they give us the opportunity to develop and grow people to fit our business from day one. We recognise what apprentices have to offer and are committed to investing in the talent of the future, in return we gain highly engaged, loyal individuals.

We were delighted to host Keith Solts and his MEICA graduates from the Environment Agency at our facility in Leeds. Mark Godfrey and Crawford Howe presented on our motor control centres (MCCs) and PLC systems.

Keith Solts, Technical Manager commented; “The Environment Agency’s MEICA Graduates visited Saftronics in Leeds as part of their training programme. The graduates were given an insight into the design, manufacture and assembly of Motor Control Centres as well as the various control and automation equipment that interfaces with it. Environment Agency MEICA engineers are responsible for the technical assurance of MCC’s and Saftronics were able to provide an appreciation of what is best practice in the industry and what the future of system integration looks like.”

Saftronics and RSE take mental health and wellbeing very seriously. Recently Sian Andrew our HR Manager and Steve Jackson our Sales Engineer completed the process of becoming Mental Health First Aiders, a role that offers a confidential point of contact for colleagues and raising mental awareness in the workplace.

They attended an NHS Health Scotland training course on Mental Health First Aid which teaches skills for providing initial help to people experiencing mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and psychosis or even thoughts of suicide.

You wouldn’t be ashamed to tell your friends you have flu….so why do we stay quiet about mental health?

1 in 5 people lives with a mental health condition, making it more common than diabetes, asthma, arthritis and the flu. Yet, we feel more comfortable talking about these subjects. Why?

Professional help is not always immediately available.

A ‘mental health first-aider’ can offer comfort and support in a crisis until professional help arrives.

Saftronics are licensed as one of a few worldwide Siemens SIVACON Technology Partners to manufacturer the half and quarter-sized withdrawable IEC 61439 Motor Control Centres in addition to the existing range of SIVACON S8 series.

The SIVACON S8 allows a maximum of 48 – motor controllers in a single vertical section, dramatically reducing the footprint needed for critical applications where space is at a premium.

Saftronics can customize the SIVACON to your special requirements and also offers a full range of complementary products.
